Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about visiting, what to expect, and how to get connected.

What is the congregation like?

The Pastor and Staff try to post plenty of pictures on our Facebook site to give people an idea of what the church and people look like on the inside. We are a unique and diverse congregation…gender diverse, neurodiverse, socioeconomically diverse, racially diverse and we welcome ALL people, including our LGBTQIA+ siblings. We want to be a church that is a brave space for all.
What is your dress code?

Come as you are.   Some people dress casually, while others wear more traditional Sunday attire. Whether you prefer jeans and sneakers or a suit and tie, you are welcome here. We care more about meeting you than what you wear.
What do you have for my kids?

Nursery
There is a nursery available from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM for ages 0-4.
Kids
We LOVE to have children in worship with us. But we do have a Children’s Ministry that children are invited to attend about half way through the service.
Youth
The Youth of Springfield Church have a monthly youth fellowship and a bi-monthly community service event. Also, Springfield UMC partners with St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church and Grace Presbyterian Church for our Youth Collective. The pastors of these three Central Springfield churches share leadership and plan meaningful gatherings for our youth to learn, grow, and serve together as a combined fellowship.   We hope that youth will worship with us on Sunday mornings and have plenty of “jobs” to keep them busy if they prefer. We love for youth to help us with AV, to serve as lay liturgists, worship leaders, ushers, acolytes, and more.
Anything else I should know?

At Springfield United Methodist Church, there is a place for everyone. We offer ministries, programs, and special events for all ages, from newborns and children to youth, adults, and seniors. We warmly welcome people from every background to share in the life of the church, build meaningful relationships, and grow in faith together.   As part of the United Methodist Church, we are guided by values that emphasize grace, inclusion, justice, compassion, and equality for all people. Our mission is to create a loving and welcoming community where everyone can experience God’s love and find opportunities to serve, worship, and belong.
What is your theology like?

At Springfield United Methodist Church, we believe that Scripture is inspired by God and continues to guide us in faith, love, and service. We are a welcoming and thoughtful community made up of people from many different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.   We value open hearts, open minds, and meaningful conversations. Rather than avoiding difficult topics, we seek to engage them with humility, compassion, grace, and respect for one another.   We believe that growing in faith also means growing in understanding, and that building relationships with people who may think, look, or live differently from us helps strengthen compassion, unity, and love within our community.
